Well…the reason we headlined this story in our year-end wrap-up is that it came from the International Energy Agency, then reinforced by the mid-autumn modelling report that the IEA signposts as the “gold standard of energy analysis”. I don’t think anyone is suggesting (yet) that a net-zero pathway is cast in stone. But as your comment demonstrates, it’s news that more and more agencies and practitioners are questioning whether the high-carbon future you describe is a given…and pointing to practical, affordable, plausible alternatives to continued reliance on technologies that fry the planet when used as directed.

Based on the way the world is now oil demand is projected to grow through 2050 according to the EIA. This article is based on the most unlikely scenario and should incorporate more recent projections for demand. Not very balanced.
