Renewable energy delivered a record 83.8% of electricity demand in the Australian state of Victoria in the early afternoon of Easter Sunday, April 17, according to the NEMLog data collection site.
Wind was the biggest contributor to the total, followed by rooftop solar and utility-scale solar.
Australia usually sets its renewable energy milestones in spring and fall, “due to moderate demand with the absence of air conditioning, and records are often established on weekends or public holidays,” RenewEconomy writes, in a post republished by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis. “The share of wind and solar might have been higher had some facilities not decided to dial down their output, or cease generation entirely, as a result of negative prices.”
