These corridors have to be maintained free of invading vegetation which implies the use of chemicals, mostly herbicides, that are detrimental to the environment and have the capacity to harm animals and other species (including humans) that come in contact with those substances.
A lot of people are complaining about the visual impact of wind turbines; I would argue that transmission lines look worse.
