The missing emphasis is the place energy demand reduction can play. 20 to 30 % of energy demand can be reduced in buildings with deliberate action to reduce the wasted energy in buildings from inefficient boiler operation, improved window technologies, refrigeration maintenance, and effective coatings for roofs and walls to reject energy gains in warm climates. These benefits will reduce the need for fossil fuels, and renewables. Conservation will increase the value of electrification, and reduce the need for wasted fossil fuels to tip the leverage to total reduction of energy waste.
